Koid was born 9/6/71 in Sacramento, California to Morris & Bonnie Starks, both musicians.  His mother on the bass & father playing lead guitar, Koid grew up with music in his blood.  It wasn't long before Koid was on the front porch, lip synching to Rick James songs with a broom stick in hand for a microphone.  Koid performed as if thousands were watching & this was only the beginning...
Aside from being raised in a musical enviornment, Koid was also brought-up in an area of high crime and it wasn't long before
Koid himself fell victim to the trappings of the ghetto.  He began committing commercial burglaries & found himself paying for it at the California Youth Authority for 2 years.  During his incarceration, Koid honed his musical craft & hit the streets in 93 with a mission to
"make it happen".
1993...  Koid hit the recording studio & recorded dozens of songs, collaborating with notorious underground Stockton artists like Mr. Peebodiee, COPS & Lunatik, as well as a then-unknown Bay Area musician named j. TRU.  Also that year, Koid hooked up with another struggling artist, Brainwash, and the two became an inseperable team.
By 1995, Koid had been recording an arsenal of material for his debut album, then titled "Here Come The Real".  But another tragedy struck him that year as Koid found himself once again in trouble with the law.  With a baby on the way & his goals of reaching the top of the music business seem to be moving slower than he had anticipated, Koid did what he felt he had to do to keep the lights on, food in the refridgerator & the rent paid.  Unfortunately, Koid was notorious to local police & it wasn't long before he had caught another cluster of burglary charges.  It was clear that this time he would be facing prison for a long time.  He was released on bail & went on the run.  But before his eventual capture, Koid made sure to make his presence felt on Brainwash's debut CD, "Skitsofrenic", in particular on the album's final cut, "Russian Roulette", in a verse that described his current troubles.  This would be Koid's first performance on an actually-store-released album, but not his last...  Days before he was caught, Koid also managed to make it to the set of Brainwash's movie "Lost", to appear in one scene as an extra...
Koid was sent to Tehachapi State Prison in 1997 & from the confines of the prison walls, Koid still refused to be held down.  He recorded songs over-the-phone from prison, with Brainwash piecing together his lyrics into many unfinished Koid tracks, as well as on his own new album, "Posthumous", on the song "Play-Pen 2 The State Penn", released in 1999.  Brainwash also incorporated camcorder footage of Koid's into his 1998 film "Smoked Out", making sure the world didn't forget about the hardest unknown artist in the game during his temporary setback.  Tragically both Koid's mother & father would pass away in the coming months, an unfortunate loss which may have crippled most people, but it only served to make Koid that much stronger.
He remained in Tehachapi until his transfer to Folsom Prison in early 1999, where he sat until his release in 2000.  With Koid back on the streets again, now equipped with a newfound focus, determination & hope, he went back into the studio with an arsenal of new material and with a life of crime behind him, Koid has dedicated himself to his music.  He's manifested real-life episodes into potent lyrics & a diverse delivery makes him the next big thing in the rap world.
Three new tracks, along with a previously unreleased underground song of Koid's, were recently released on Brainwash's critically acclaimed "Eclectic Fusion" compilation, showing that prison has done nothing but given Koid time to hone his skill and internet surveys have shown that Koid's four tracks on the various-artists album were of the four most favorite by rap fans.
With a newborn baby, a loving wife & his homeboy Brainwash at his back, Koid has decided this time that there will be nothing that will stop him from achieving his goals. He has formed Five 2 Life Muzick, a subsidiary production label with Sykadelik Entertainment, and has just finished compiling a collection of previously unreleased underground material recorded between the years of '93-'99, on a CD entited "Left 4 Dead", which will be hitting stores soon...  Also, Koid is working tirelessly on his long-awaited debut album, "Loved By Few, Hated By Many", which is due for release in 2002, from Sykadelik Entertainment/Five 2 Life Muzick.  Koid has no doubt lived what he has written & writes what he has lived and hopes through the emotion of his music, his listeners will feel what he has felt..
